It has been a crazy few weeks here at the Fraley house! (as evidenced by the lack of posts) From work, school, hospital visits, church, soccer, illness, vacations, and a plethora of other things thrown in for good measure, it has been hard to catch my breath. I want life to slow way down.
But that's not the way it always works. We have zero control of some aspects of our lives and much less than we would like in the rest. Sometimes we are overwhelmed by all that gets tossed our way. That's when its good to be reminded of some of the most basic truths in life.
Yesterday, as I was driving to church, a song came on the radio and helped me remember one of those truths. I think I ascribe too much importance to circumstances in my life. It leads to that feeling of drowning under a tsunami of responsibilities. I tend to suffer from emotional repercussions from things that I have no control over. What I heard on the radio was a reminder that, regardless of the events of life, I have been made right with God through Jesus. I have the most important thing covered. Everything else is simply incidental. That's a liberating feeling! It does not change my problems, my responsibilities, or my obstacles. But it does disconnect my sense of self-worth and value from them. And it gives me perspective on their relative importance. In essence, it gives me room to breathe.
I have to tell you, that little epiphany changed my day. Its nice when the weight of the world, a burden that you and I cannot possible carry, slips free from your shoulders. It was humbling, It was gratifying. It was freeing. You're gonna want to get some of this. So make some time today to reconsider the core truths of your life. Ask God for some perspective. It is soooooo worth it!
